North Campus Energy Project – The University of Manchester
Who: University of Manchester
When: 2024- ongoing
What:
RECOM Solutions was tasked with providing a ‘proof of concept’ for a new centralised 5G heat recovery infrastructure at The University of Manchester’s North Campus and the surrounding buildings.
The project’s overall goal is to introduce a new energy centre in the North Campus area, which will be connected to three buildings and then expanded into six.
The project will use 5g Heat Technology with only one pre-existing similar facility in the UK, with minimal in Europe, making the project pioneering in engineering terms.
The technology itself captures waste heat produced by a building (e.g., waste heat from computer servers or laboratories) and re-circulates it into the different buildings connected on the loop, recycling the waste heat to reduce energy consumption.
